Cyber Range

Enhancing Hands-on Cyber Training

The Cyber Range is a cybersecurity training space, offering hands-on training through simulated cyberattacks, data breaches, and other cybercrimes. Much like a flight simulator, our Cyber Range emulates a highly advanced virtual environment tailored for training cybersecurity experts with unparalleled realism. Our 1,900 square foot facility features 24 work stations, a large video wall, and command center. Through simulated “stress-tests,” participants navigate cyberbreaches in real-time, forcing them to detect, respond, and remediate incidents.

Bridgewater State University’s Cyber Range is the most sophisticated of its kind in Massachusetts and enables students and other users from municipalities, nonprofit organizations, and private industry to train and gain experience in handling simulated ransomware, malware and other types of cyberattacks in a controlled environment.

Whether you are looking for a cybersecurity degree, professional education to advance your career, or professional training for your IT Security team, BSU’s Cybersecurity Range has a program for you.

Funding for the Cyber Range

The creation of the Cyber Range and Security Operations Center (SOC) was funded through a $2 million federal grant secured by Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) and Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), intended to enable students to apply, hone, and elevate their cybersecurity skills, and serve as a resource for the Commonwealth to provide training to municipalities, state agencies, law enforcement, and other entities. On February 24, 2023, Senator Markey visited the Bridgewater campus to speak with faculty and students of the cybersecurity program and tour the site of the planned Cyber Range.

This project is partially funded by the Congressionally Directed Spending allocation administered by the U.S. Department of Education’s FIPSE Program award #P116Z220025, and the Commonwealth of MA FY22 Skills Capital Grant administered by the Executive Office of Education, award #BD-21-1036-EDU02-EDU02-57156.
